Practice Update: Hair Rejuvenation Services at MCM

A wise man once said that you better take care of your body, because at the end of the day, it’s simply a high-value rental! Aesthetics has an undeniably strong interplay with longevity. What’s the value of participating in the centenarian Olympics if you don’t look or feel your best?

Perhaps driven by my own insecurities regarding hair thinning, MCM will now provide comprehensive hair rejuvenation and maintenance services in-house:

The first is platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for injection into the scalp, with blood draws that can align seamlessly with routine bloodwork. Across 43 randomized controlled trials (RCTs), the literature suggests that PRP is one of the most effective methods of stimulating dermal blood flow, reducing inflammation, and promoting hair growth in upwards of 70-80% of patients.

Studies suggest a robust augmentation in response when combined with microneedling, with some data citing up to 40%. When the scalp is numbed, a sterile microneedling pen is used to create small channels to enhance delivery of the PRP, allowing it to more effectively penetrate the deeper dermal layer.

We’re also excited to partner with Alma to offer the Transepidermal Delivery (TED) device—a pain-free alternative to PRP + microneedling. This device uses ultrasound to deliver growth serum and peptides to the same depth without the need for a nerve block or resulting scalp trauma. I’m particularly intrigued by its flexibility, which allows for exosomes or even stem cell delivery based on personalized goals.

Early data on the growth serum is phenomenal: 98% of patients report reduced shedding, 96% report increased growth, and nearly 99% express satisfaction with the device for both restoration and maintenance. I have a strong suspicion that this technology will quickly replace PRP as the go-to modality for mild-to-moderate hair loss and maintenance.

We’re augmenting all modalities with an industry-leading red light therapy scalp device. At the 650nm wavelength, red light effectively penetrates the dermis to a depth of 2mm, stimulating hair thickness and density. Finally, MCM is partnering with NutraFol for oral supplementation and DHT-blocking hair products to optimize outcomes. My goal is to keep this product line as natural and herbal as possible, given the inherent risks of alternatives.
